Oana Gregory - "Crash & Bernstein" Review

Oana Gregory as "Amanda Bernstein"
As you are probably aware by now, Barbizon Midwest Schaumburg graduate Oana Gregory, age 16, stars as Amanda Bernstein on Disney XD's "Crash & Bernstein,"which premiered October 8, 2012. So we thought we'd take a look at how the show is doing.

The show is a heartwarming story of a young boy in a house full of women (a single mother and three sisters) who get a doll for his birthday. The doll comes to life, albeit with a typical boyish "destroy everything" personality and the tendency to headbutt people instead of high-fiving them.

Overall, this tight knit cast has fabulous chemistry on screen as you can see from their photos.

Oana Gregory shared this cool photo of her with the cast
(Mckenna Grace, Cole Jensen, and Landry Bender)
with "Dog with a Blog" star, Blake Michael

All in all, the offset chemistry shines through on the television. Basically, we love "Crash & Bernstein!"

Want to book more jobs for the New Year?!

As we approach the New Year here are 10 tips for Acting/Modeling in 2013, straight from our agency director Paige Ehlman!

  1. Make sure your Casting Networks Profile is current - including your skills, wardrobe sizes and contact information. If you have a new phone number or email, please update your info!
  2. Communication is key! Check-in with the agency at least once a month. Let us know about your schedule and you availability for auditions and jobs.
  3. Keep your acting skills fresh so you will be well prepared for auditions and jobs; participate in theatre at school or in your community. Read acting scenes and monologues online or at your library.
  4. If your photo is over 2 years old and your look has changed, consider getting updated pictures or email a recent color smiling snapshot to your agent. Clients expect you to look like your photo!
  5. Always have hard copies of your headshot, comp card or snapshot ready for auditions. This is a requirement for every audition.
  6. Eat healthy, exercise and get plenty of rest to look your best in front of the camera.
  7. Sign up on Atmoshpere Casting www.atmoshperecastingchicago.com to be considered for extra work in TV or film.
  8. Respond to your agent's emails/voicemails promptly! You may miss out on an important audition or booking if your agent has to wait to hear back from you.
  9. Arrive on time for every audition and booking! Lateness is unacceptable. In case of illness or emergency contact your agent immediately.
  10. Keep a positive attitude!

We've got Breanna Lynn's Back - Help "Catching Fire" make the Soundtrack!

Breanna Lynn
As you know, Barbizon Midwest graduate Breanna Lynn's self-titled debut album was released exclusively via iTunes on the 18th of March 2012 and cites Demi Lovato, Stevie Nicks, and Christina Perri as the main influences on both her artistry and her debut album.

However, according to Celeb Teen Laundry, Breanna is unlike any of the current pop stars on the charts. "She is able to convey pitch-perfect emotion in her music, without drawing a breath or a beat - a recipe for massive international success and true musical talent."

Recently, she released an EP "Catching Fire" (inspired by "The Hunger Games"), which is also now available for purchase on iTunes and Amazon.

Breanna is currently trying to get her song "Catching Fire" into the soundtrack for the movie "Catching Fire." Here's a post from her Facebook page:

"Alright, so as you know, I am trying to get my song Catching Fire into the Catching Fire movie soundtrack (as I've said a million times, sorry). So I just made a page for this song. I don't ever do this so I don't mean to bother your guys! But if you like this song, please like this page and post it to your wall. Let's get people to hear it! You guys are awesome thanks"

As one of Breanna Lynn's biggest fans and supporters we immediately liked her page, but now we need all of you! Help Breanna by liking and sharing her page!

Why you DIDN'T get the part!

Amy Jo Berman
18 years as a Casting Director
14 of them as VP of Casting at HBO
Amy Jo Berman is a former Vice President of Casting at HBO and says: "Based on my years and and years of experience as a casting director in film and television, these are some of the reasons you didn't get the part."

Even though your audition was amazing... and you were totally on your game and you lit up the room with creative acting genius, you still might not get the part. First, it's not negative to understand why you didn't get a job because it will free your mind of all that monkey-mind chatter that happens when you find out you didn't get it. Second, and this is the important part so pay attention, it doesn't matter.

  1. You're too tall.
  2. You're too short.
  3. You're too pretty.
  4. You're not pretty enough.
  5. You're too fat.
  6. You're too thin.
  7. You're too blonde.
  8. You're not blonde enough.
  9. You're too old.
  10. You're too young.
  11. You're too serious.
  12. You're too funny.
  13. You look too much like the lead.
  14. You don't look enough like the lead.
  15. You remind the producer of his sister, and he hates his sister.
  16. You are too ethnic.
  17. You are not ethnic enough.
  18. You were the first one to read that day.
  19. You were the last one to read that day.
  20. You're more like the best friend than the lead.
  21. You're more of a lead than the best friend.
  22. You're to character-y.
  23. You're not character-y enough.
  24. You look like the director's wife and he had a fight with his wife right before he left the house this morning.
None of these are within your control. NONE.

What you must understand is that your only job in an audition is to do you best work. Everything else is not up to you. The role you are reading for is one piece of an entire jigsaw puzzle. It must fit with the rest of the puzzle or the puzzle won't work. The casting director, producer, and director are fitting pieces of the puzzle together all day long. Your only job is to be the best "piece" you can be. Whether your edges fit in the slot for that piece is not up to you.

Just go to your audition. Do your best and let it go. If you're good, they will remember you... for a future part!

Want to Make it in this Industry? Top model / actor Patrick Thompson Delivers Your NEED to know Answers!

Patick Thompson
Patrick Thompson has been keeping himself quite busy since graduating from Barbizon Midwest in Schaumburg, IL in 1999. Even with his fast-paced schedule he was kind enough to check-in for an interview with us.

So, Patrick what is your favorite memory of Barbizon Midwest?

"My favorite memory of Barbizon is driving to the classes with my mom (maybe November or December) and eating tomato soup in the car before going into class. IMTA was another interesting and fun experience. The memories there also include my mother, because she went with and it's nice to know how much fun she had there. I enjoyed the people, the energy, and the experience."

How has Barbizon Midwest impacted your life?

"I learned more about the networking part of things. How things REALLY work. I got to witness the power of connections, knowing people, etc. Which can be a great thing in everyday life and also can be a great thing in the business/industry as well."

I think many students want to know what to do upon completing Barbizon, what was your next step?
Patrick Thompson
International Harold Tribune

Patrick Thompson
"Since graduating Barbizon I signed (but am no longer with) Ford Models in Chicago and New York, Bleu in Los Angeles, Attitude in London, Success in Paris and Joy in Milan.

I went to Europe (Milan and Paris) twice for fashions seasons. I walked the runway for Louis Vuitton in France. A shot of me walking that runway appeared in a January 2001 Edition of The International Herald Tribune.

I have appeared in many magazine publications: Target, Sony, Detour, Arude, British Elle, British Vogue, Paul Mitchell, Paul Smith, Oliver People, Gentleman's Options, German GQ, Time Warner cable, Modern Salon, Mode Max, Ruffo Research look book, Elite Traveler, Samsung, American Crew and Xerox/Virgin Airlines.

Commercially I've been in: Snickers industrial, K-Swiss national, Liberty Mutual Insurance national, KIA, WiiU, Jawbone, Pepsi, an Anti Drug PSA, as well as 3 local commercials.

Patrick Thompson "Fanatics"
I've been in music videos for the bands: SR-71 (Tomorrow) and Paolo Nutini (Last Request).

I appeared in a WWE promo "Stone Cold," Steve Austin that premiered live on Paper view and at the Staples Center in Los Angeles for Wrestlemania 21.

I was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Action On Film Festival in Long Beach, as well as Best Actor at the Van Wert Film Festival.

On of the short films I did is on YouTube. It's garnered over 227,500 views already!"

NewMoon Spoof - a hilarious parody featuring Patrick as Edward Cullen from Twilight
"Not New Moon"

Well, Patrick, you certainly have created/earned quite an extensive and impressive resume. What are your current plans?

"Currently I am working a day job as a concierge at a high end life style center and at the same time pursuing more work in the entertainment/acting industry."

Patrick Thompson
With all of you success, dedication, and hard work, we have to ask what advice you have for our Barbizon students looking to start a career in the entertainment industry?

"Get out there and get in the game as soon as you can and immerse yourself in it all. If you find that it's not for you, don't sweat it, you can find something else you love. Also treat it as a business. Show up on time, collect all the copy of yourself that you can (for memories as well as for business purposes), and have fun. But take it seriously. If this is a career, what you want to do, don't mess around find your niche and work at it. At the same time, the industry will, for the most part, always be around so there isn't necessarily a time limit. There are doors open for all ages, races, etc."
