Erica Barlament Strives to Save Lives

Erica Barlament
National American Miss Wisconsin Junior Pre-teen 2012
In a previous blog we wrote how Barbizon Midwest Wisconsin graduate Erica Barlament was crowned National American Miss Wisconsin Junior Pre-teen 2012.

Erica's Story
On November 7, 2003 a young couple, thrilled to hear their baby's heartbeat for the first time, decided to go shopping for the baby's nursery when tragedy struck. On their way to the store another car swerved and hit their car straight on. Miraculous the baby was fine and the mother survived with a few minor injuries, but the father was gone forever. Prior to the father's death he committed to being an organ and tissue donor and because of his generous spirit he was able to save the lives of over 50 people by donating his bones, heart valves, and veins.

On September 5 2003, what would have been the father's 30th birthday, his baby, Erica Barlament, was born. Erica hopes to carry on her father's unselfish nature by telling his story and encouraging others to donate life. This December Erica will participate in decorating the donate life float, which will be in the famous Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA. As the 2012 National American Miss Wisconsin Junior Pre-teen, Erica is doing her best to give back to her community.

Pencils with a Purpose
Not only is Erica encouraging organ and tissue donation, but her pageant coach, Karlee Nimmer (who is also a Barbizon graduate AND teacher) found "Pencils with Purpose."This was Karlee's commmunity service through the pageant and through this cause, Karlee and Erica strives to help struggling families and privately funded schools to provide school supplies for the children.

Next week Erica will be representing Wisconsin in the National American Miss USA Junior Pre-teen 2012 competition. She has put together a video regarding her community service efforts which we will be airing as soon as the competition is over.

Erica, we are 100% behind you and so very proud of your generosity. You are an inspiration to all around you. Best of luck next week. We know you will shine!
